The Opportunity Scholarship (OS) is a U.S. government funded EducationUSA program (Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State) designed to increase access to U.S. higher education institutions for highly qualified international students of limited means.
The program provides outstanding prospective students with funds to cover the upfront costs of attending a university in the United States that could include: application and courier fees, translations/certifications of education credentials, advanced English language courses, standardized testing fees and preparation courses, US visa and SEVIS fees, and travel to the US.
OS recipients are nominated by EducationUSA advisers on a rolling basis and work closely with their advisers throughout the application process. Students are selected into the program based on a careful review of their credentials and experience by a committee consisting of the Regional Educational Advising Coordinator (EducationUSA) and staff of the Public affairs Section of the US Embassy.
The Scholarships are provided to a limited number of most talented students. Through the Opportunity Grant, Education USA is making a commitment to see that deserving international students have the best possible chance to experience higher education in the United States.
